Cooking is a Self Affirming Gesture of Love
This is one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken. These utensils belonged to my husband’s great great grandmother. His grandmother (our Pancar) gave these utensils to me before she passed away a few years ago at 104 1/2 years of age. I never plan to polish them to make them look new.
To me their perfection, their story is more telling from them being tarnished. I imagine the hands that used them. The conversations that took place. The laughter and possibly sorrow that was all taking place amongst these utensils.
Pancar never considered herself to be old. She cooked and loved family and entertaining and did so many bold things in her life. Her belief in herself and boldness has always inspired me.
I have one my maternal grandmother’s cookbooks and pie pans as well. My creativity and passion in the kitchen comes from her and so much of my personality is intertwined with hers. I feel her presence all of the time especially when I’m cooking.
Those 3 things I cherish so much.
I’ve always felt my ancestors pulling me towards the appreciation of the basics in life. It’s one the things that I’m continuing to build my business upon.
In such a busy fast paced world where sometimes it feels like we can never do enough, I want women to slow down sometimes and not feel guilty about it.
I want women to know that they should be at the top of the list and not the last because we cannot pour from an empty cup.
Pausing to cook a simple meal is a self affirming gesture of love.
I want women to make love edible for themselves.
I want to thank all of you for the connectivity of community. In so many ways this year has provided us with the opportunity of truly recognizing how intertwined we are.
How love, respect and compassion is something we should be striving for at every given moment because most of us don’t look like what we have gone or going through.
My big dream is that I Am Len's Kitchen will make space for busy women to be well in all areas of life, discover or find their way back to how they pour love into themselves.
So ultimately all of those other things in her life that is also important like family, career, community, can reap all of the benefits at a higher vibrational level.
It has been such an honor to be in this space with all of you.
